Tompkins Review - Beautiful Girls
Beautiful Girls is a film directed by Ted Demme, which is one of Mark N Tompkins favorite directors of the New York film school, close to where he grew up, which is best known for its great camera and sound use, because it’s different from Hollywood’s film school, and in many ways it is closer to the ordinary, common people. The movie script is done by Scott Rosenberg, who as Mark N Tompkins informs, is best known for his work on the film "Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead ', also one of those classics and favorite movies with a group of characters that entertain. Otherwise, Rosenberg was originally from Massachusetts, so it is not surprising that the action of the film takes place in a town near Boston, the capital of the state.
Produced by Miramax and Woods Entertainment, the film Beautiful Girls is virtually undetectable as it reached earnings of over $20 million. At the International Film Festival in San Sebastian, Spain, in 1997 the movie won the award for best screenplay, while that same year the Chicago Film Critics Association nominated Natalie Portman for Best Supporting Actor and Actress for her performance in this movie.
The movie set is designed without too many precious details and prompts, and almost the entire action of the film takes place on the streets, showing images of restaurants and houses in Knight's Ridge, which is a small, peaceful town that drowns you deeper into the story and makes you feel as if you are looking at your own life, or the lives of our friends. The characters in the film are also people that you can easily relate to, like the neighbor that you were in love with your whole life, your best buddy or friend who was closer to you than a sister or a brother. While watching this film for the first time, Mark N Tompkins recognized himself in some of the characters and saw glimpses of friends in other characters. Another interesting fact about this film is that it gains greater emotional value a few days after first seeing it.
